An Ophthalmology Assistant works closely with Ophthalmologists, assists them with procedures, performs ocular measurements, and tests eye functions, and gathers medical records. Typically, employers will require a high school diploma or GED and the following abilities – strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to be organized and manage time efficiently; computer literacy; listening skills, and the ability to use and work with precise tools and equipment. Entry-level positions need only a high school diploma although some employers want a program in ophthalmic medical assisting at college or university.
